Christina Nelson, Founder and President/CEO – I am a wife of 35 plus years and mother to 4 children, who lives an ordinary life in a small agricultural community. God’s spiritual gift to me is a big heart for service and giving. One day, my heart was broken as I watched a video of children in an orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa, living in poverty and starving; none of God’s children should have to live this way. But what could I do? After heeding God’s command, “Follow me” Matthew 4:19, I was just a retired Pharmacy Tech working part time as a waitress. A few days after watching that video, as I rummaged through the mound of coins from my tips, God spoke: “‘Pennies for Poultry’… feed my children.” God had to repeat this message 2 more times before it sunk in just what God’s plan for me was. Yes, just a part-time waitress, living an ordinary life, who had raised 4 children in 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America) with chickens as their projects. God’s plan for me was to use what I had learned through raising my own children, so that years later, I could help feed God’s children all around the world (Ephesians 2:10). If someone like me can make a difference, so can you. To learn more about my story and how God used me to found this organization, please visit the Our Story page.
April Camden, Senior Vice President and Acting Financial Director – As a busy wife and mother of 4 who holds down a full time job that habitually finds its way home with me, I often feel like I do not give enough time to God through devotions and prayer, serving my church in several ministries, or investing in friendships with the members of our small group my husband leads. When my mom told me about the mission God showed her, I was very excited for her to live out her passion. Little did I know that God had plans for me in her mission as well. After thinking about the purpose of the organization, I knew God wanted me to help; I just didn’t know how involved He wanted me to be at the time. With all the things I was already involved in, how was I to find more time? “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26. When God moves, we need to move. When God’s got a plan, His will be done. I don’t know how I do it sometimes, and other times I accept that I just cannot do it all, but I give it all I can. If I have found the time to invest in this organization as a board member, sort-of web-editor, and some-what task manager, anyone can find a little time, which will help a lot.
